What Is It About This Year?
January 2023
My Gracious Friend:
When I was not yet born, my grandfather; Thomas Wyatt, initiated the Wings of Healing radio ministry from a hastily build Quonset style auditorium called the “Downtown Tabernacle,” in Portland, Oregon. This was quite a step of faith considering that a world war had broken out and its results were very much in doubt, and would be for many months to come. My father Max Wyatt tried to enlist, but was rejected due to tuberculin scars on his lungs. His healing over a year before had left the scars as proof he had T.B. So he went to work at a shipyard cutting steel plates for what were called “Jeep” carriers. That was a special time, because everyone, and I mean everyone was devoted to one thing; defeating the Fascists in Europe and in the Pacific.
It was a different world then, but I’m old enough to know that it did not change greatly for many decades. That was when families for the most part stayed together, when right and wrong were virtues taught at home and in schools. A time when one was held responsible for what you did, and were forced to make restitution for your actions. Not only did I have to pay for the windows that I had broken with errant baseballs, but would learn how to replace the glass with putty knife and glazing. A skill I have not regretted learning, since I have had reason to use it often.
But now things have changed, changed greatly. Now there is no shame, no punishment, let alone restitution for breaking in and stealing everything in a neighborhood store. And now most baby’s born are to unwed mothers, if they’re born at all. And murders by the thousands in our cities go unsolved, and thus unpunished. One could go on but why reiterate what we all have been experiencing, and its seems to be getting worse. And any answers for this, believe me, will not come from the pundits or politicians. They don’t have the wisdom. Any answers will come from us; the people! And only when we turn to the only one who does have the answers: our Lord!
I believe our Lord would have us again devoted to one cause, to throw off a form of fascism bent on denying Him and His many blessings to our Judaic-Christian civilization. Yet, is this year, our “generation of wrath?” Jeremiah used this phrase for his generation, for “They did not obey or incline their ears, but walked in their own counsel and the stubbornness of their evil hearts…you shall speak these words, but they will not listen…truth has perished…And I will make to cease…the voice of mirth and gladness…for the land shall become a waste” (Jer.7: 24,27,28,34). There is much more, and his words to Judah are hard, but were true and fulfilled. Could this be our fate? Truth has perished in our land, and we too as a people have just as Judah; stole, murdered, committing all kinds of immorality and cared not\ for God. He could be speaking of us; ours is a world of lies, propaganda (now called misinformation), and using and abusing people as if they were fodder for a fire. This is about a year that will test our resolve and faith; hymn singing at abortion clinics is now terrorism, reading Bible stories at the Public Library is prohibited, and expressing concern that six year olds should not be taught sexual matters gets you listed as a ‘public threat.’ Of course, this is irrational and destroys all the good and beauty, all in favor of strange notions and outright ugliness and filth. Empires will always fall, yet Christianity will always grow no matter what happens around us. But for our nations, have too many in our society ‘served other gods and provoke Him to judgment?’ It’s cause for much prayer, repentance for not doing enough, and the hope that it’s not too late.
. May He have mercy once more and quicken us by His spirit to revival.
Thomas Randolf Wyatt
